What's That Smell...?
Aromatherapy....it's a thing, a big thing, and understandably so.....smell is the strongest of our 5 senses and the one most tied to memory and emotion...
Positive smells affect our overall mood, concentration, productivity, and can help reduce stress...
(Honeysuckle will always take me back to my grandmother's house on Long Island....riding my bike, the contrast of the white sand on the side of the blacktop road, and the sweet smell of honeysuckle that framed the driveway...easy carefree summer childhood days....)
We thought about the affect of smells on our mood a lot at Tumbleweed when we first started making our candles 25 years ago...what smells did we gravitate towards, how did they make us feel and which ones would we want to burn in which room etc...
We determined which ones we loved and have pretty much stuck with those scents ever since....why change a good thing?....
We burn a different one in each room of the shop...
And now, our very own Tatiana makes most of them out of her house, with her mini-me, Kira, helping thread the wicks....imagine how good their house must smell on candle making days...
TUMBLEWEED CHEMISTRY....
For the more ethereal scents, we wanted to evoke the essence of Spring and Summer, bring the beauty of Southern California to you all year round with the strike of a match....fresh greens and the abundance of flowers...create scents that would help start and end the day off with renewal and hope....
Notes: gardenia, fresh cut greens, lily, jasmine, tuberose, honeysuckle, cucumber, lime, basil....dreamy!
*Tuberose....romantic, soothing, stress reducing and an aphrodisiac!
*Flower Shoppe....you'll think you've walked into one....a waft of petals, freshly cut green stems, all the abundance of a garden...that was our goal in creating the Flower Shoppe, and we think we nailed it!
For the earthier aromas, we wanted to use the essential oils that would conjure up warmth, comfort and passion....certain scents may tend to be seasonal, but we believe that that is just marketing, and that any of our candles can, and should, be burned any time of year....it's all about the mood you want to create!
Notes: clove, fir, pine, cedar, clary sage, vanilla, nutmeg, patchouli, sandalwood, amber, fig, red currant....
*Fireplace...if you're anything like us, you would have a fire in the fireplace or outside in the fire pit all year round...Ok, so the 90 degree+ summer days push that a bit, but that's where this candle fits in perfectly!
*Fraser Fir...always a classic, and not just for the winter holidays...that fresh pine smell takes you gently away from your busy life any day...
*Billy Big Bucks:Clary Sage...boosts mental strength, combats stress and anxiety and promotes mischief! This is our personal favorite for burning in the kitchen...like for when you've burnt something in the kitchen....
*Ivy League Gunslinger:Vanilla-Nutmeg-Clove....Our Ivy League Gunslinger combo energizes, comforts and promotes positivity...who doesn't need all of that?!
*Red Currant...what started as our favorite holiday candle became our favorite all year round candle....we couldn't get enough of the sweet warm tart aroma! So comforting, great for any room......
*Venice Beach...whether you live there or dream of being there, our Venice Beach candle is the essence of sun/suntan lotion/sand/ocean/sea air and no worries....burn it any time you feel the need to escape...take the travel tin with you on that ski trip your partner talked you into even though you don't ski.....remind them that next time, you choose...
*THE STINKY DOG COLLECTION*
In our Stinky Dog collection, we have four scent combos, unique to our candle line, that work really well for our four legged's unique odors...and they are great around cat boxes too!!
Cucumber-Lime-Basil....fresh clean smells like citrus (lime) and cucumber are uplifting and deodorizing, and, do we really need to say why we added basil? It could be the IT factor...maybe you act like us, as if you're smelling for the first time whenever basil is near...huge life affirming inhale, then a very loud "Oh my goddddddd that's the best smell everrrrr"...the IT factor.... A smell so good you want to eat it, so we added it to the candle...
Amber-Fig...amber has a wonderfully rich, sweet and spicy aroma, and when we paired it with fig we realized it was a must-add to the odor cover uppers for the puppers!!
Patchouli-Sandalwood...a strong intoxicating combo of woodsy sandalwood and slightly sweet Patchouli is a no brainer when it comes to masking pet smells...(I personally burn this one when it's day 100 something of my 105 lb dog's bath strike...)
Honeysuckle...richly floral, spirit lifting and energy boosting!! Your dog might not feel the effects, but it will make you happy not to be smelling their stinkiness, and your happiness, of course, is all that matters to them...
