THINK GREEN!
Hilary said I was in charge of this weeks blog. This is an issue because I am getting on a plane in the morning. So here's a go at sharing useful information when you only have 5 minutes to prep!
THINK GREEN!!
With St. Patrick's day upon us, we thought it might be nice to share our greenest ideas. For that, this Irish girl found a Syrian and Ukrainian to help!...
(Hilary here, Lizzie now thousands of feet in the air...rest assured, she is still working...)
So, our thoughts of green here at T&D lean heavily towards succulents...hearty, textured and not afraid of change...we love them and have many adorning every corner of Tumbleweed...It's so simple to make a beautiful succulent centerpiece that will bring you joy, and of course, propagating the leaves lets you go forth and multiply many times over...
Here's one easy way to create a beautiful succulent bowl:
*With soil for succulents (and cacti) fill your favorite bowl/dish/pot (with hole for drainage) about half way with soil....
*Gather a mix of different succulents for varying color and textures..
*Place biggest plant in middle and others around it.....
*Don't worry about crowding the plants, they are very adaptable and don't mind!!
*Fill any gaps with soil and top off with gravel, decorative aquarium stones or, our personal favorite, MOSS...the greener the merrier!!
*Give your lovely bowl a shower...
*Voila!!! You have a beautiful succulent bowl, for indoors or outdoors!
Additional tips:
* Don't over water, approx.4-6 hours of morning light and fertilize once a month....
* See bugs? Take a Q-tip with isopropyl alcohol and swab them off...never use pesticides...
*Bring inside if there's threat of frost...
*When you want to propagate, do so from the bottom, leaving younger leaves on top in tact...
We know there is everything you would ever need to know on the internet, but isn't looking at a handsome Syrian while reading how to do something more fun? Thank you Mkayel and Vitaly (photo credit)....
