The "Double Rub" and Pinot Noir

A rough estimate says: 6 out of 10 of us who work are now working from home, up by roughly 30% prior to COVID...

That's a lot more time at home, and if you're like me, you're working AND lounging on the couch...more opportunities to spill that nice glass of Pinot Noir, (that may or may not be a tad projective)...more wear on pillows, a lot more use of our everyday fabrics, indoors and outside...

Approximately 23 million households adopted a pet during the pandemic ...That's a lot of fur babies!!! YAY FOR SAVING ANIMALS!!! Boo for potential pet wear, tear and fuzz around the house....

And of course, our human babies and toddlers,  and all the stickiness and stains involved with raising them...

Whatever your needs, choosing high performance, Sunbrella, (or the like), and PET fabrics (a type of polyester) for upholstery, pillows, rugs, and even drapes can help keep your home easy to care for...

FACTS ABOUT HIGH PERFORMANCE FABRICS AND THE RUB FACTOR:

There's a fabric test called the "double rub"....manufacturers test the fabric by rubbing it with cotton fabric or abrasive wire...this motion is called a double rub, mimicking getting up and sitting down, the double rub, where the fabrics meet and rub against each other...

*A double rub count tells you how many times the fabric can be rubbed before it breaks, shows wear, or loses texture. Here is the household breakdown:

  • Delicate duty – Under 3,000 double rubs. Suitable for pillows and curtains.
  • Light duty – 3,000-9,000 double rubs. Suitable for use on occasional use furniture
  • Medium duty – 9,000-15,000 double rubs. Suitable for daily use furniture.
  • Heavy duty – 15,000+ double rubs. Suitable for the family sofa in the living room.

*When you are fabric shopping, swatches of fabric will have the "rub count" on the back...

All extremely durable, stain, water, child and odor resistant...PHEW!!

We at "The Weed" hope at least some of this info is helpful....I will leave you with this story:

As I enjoyed my nice glass of Pinot writing this week's blog, I recalled a winter night in Jackson Hole,Wy., 1989...my best friend Shelli, who was house/dog sitting for a nice couple, and I decided we would invite two guy friends over for a little dinner party while she was house sitting...we of course had to drink RED wine....a few too many bottles later and there it was, all over their lovely cream carpet (and, if you've been paying attention, I'm the one who talks with her hands)...too bad it was not stain resistant carpet...we of course forked out half of a paycheck to have the carpet cleaned.....but getting the red wine out of the white dog? Not so easy....

Pet resistant fabrics great, what about wine resistant pets...?? Now there's an idea...
